If everything goes has we have planned, we will be wondering around Rome in autumn. I have already started planning and also got myself a Rome City Guide by Lonely Planet.

Lonely Planet is renowned for its first-hand approach, up-to-date maps and commitment to providing the best information for travelers. Their guidebooks contain no advertising. Authors are experienced, insightful travel experts. They personally research the places they write about.

Treasure Thursday - Deborah Flanagan Jewelry

tt

It’s time for the next Treasure Thursday. Today you will meet a woman who’s blog I have been following for a while. Let me introduce you Deborah! She has great recipes, fashion ideas and fantastic giveaways on her blog. You should go and check it out! She is also a jewelry designer:

image

*Tell me a little bit about yourself.

My name is Deborah Flanagan.  I've been married to the same wonderful man for 31 years.  We have 3 grown children. We spend our time between Southeast Michigan and Elbow Cay, Bahamas.  When I'm not making jewelry, I'm cooking and baking, blogging, working out at the gym, reading and hanging out with the hubby.

image

* How long have you been a jewelry designer? How and why did you start?

When I moved to Michigan from Pennsylvania in 1991, I took a jewelry making class at our local art center.  I loved it so much I enrolled at the local university and completed studies receiving a BFA with a concentration in metals (quite a change from my previous occupation of nursing).  I went full-circle and taught at the same art center where I took my first class and began to sell my jewelry at their gallery shop.  I no longer teach but they continue to carry my work in the shop.

image *This is one of my favorite pieces from her shop.

* What is your favorite material to work with and why?

I work with silver, choosing to fabricate all my work from silver sheet or wire, rather than working in wax and casting.  Each piece is therefore unique.  I like the feel of the metal and respond to how how manipulative it actually is.  Sometimes I just NEED color and I use beads or stones but I think my best work is using silver alone incorporating shape, texture, and proportion.

image *Love her bubble creations!

* What is your favorite recipe/food?

It would be hard to say what my favorite food is but my favorite recipe is my grandmother's chocolate cake.   This is a family favorite for any/all occasions.

P2080037*Click picture for the recipe

I have a small garden in the summer and I adore cooking with the fresh vegetables and herbs and I cook on the grill every chance I get.

* Where do you get your inspiration for the items in your shop?

I take inspiration from current fashion for sure.  Sometimes just playing around with the metal will inspire a design.  Mostly I think I look at classic jewelry designs and try to make them modern.

*If you had to choose just one favorite item in your shop, what would it be and why?

The jewelry that I wear most often (everyday) is a set of hammered silver bangles.

image

My favorite new piece is the Can't Loose earrings.  The "catch" on the back of the earring locks-in the earwire insuring that you "can't loose" them.

image

It is so easy and frustrating to loose and earring when wearing a scarf or turtleneck sweater.  I love the modern look of these earrings.  I've gotten many compliments when I wear them.

GIVEAWAY!

Deborah is giving away a pair of earrings (winner's choice) or a set of 3 bangles.

Treasure Thursday - Blush *CLOSED*

tt

image

Blush Accessories welcomes you to a product that helps adjust the clothes you already have to fit you perfectly. This is a shirt that is to be worn like a tube top, but around the waist. Their product is made of a poly/rayon/spandex blend, allowing a huge amount of stretch and great support.

blush1I like to wear low-rise jeans, but it comes to a problem when I need to bow or squat down. I’m not a fan of showing off my underwear or flesh and I don’t have many long tops/blouses that would cover my “assets” when I’m bowing or squatting. Blush undershirt is an easy solution to that problem. It covers parts of my body I don’t want other to see.

For all your favorite shirts that have shrunk in the dryer, don't throw them away. Just add a topless undershirt and you still have the length of the shirt you bought it as.

The thing I like about Blush is that their soft blend of fabric makes the undershirt so comfortable, you can't even tell it is there. With the tapered shape and spandex blend, the garment stays put and it will not fall.

Blush undershirts are great for everyone. If you love the look of layering without adding the extra bulk and straps, this is a product for you.  Without straps, you are not limited to where the length of your shirt falls. You can adjust to any length, whether you want it to go just over the top of your pants or all the way down to your thigh.

Undershirts come with different colors, patterns and sizes to add style to any outfit.

GIVEAWAY!

Blush is giving away an undershirt to one of my reader. Winner can choose the size.

Treasure Thursday – My Kind of Beautiful Giveaway (2 winners)

tt

Today I’ll take you to journal and scrapbooking heaven! Cindy from My Kind of Beautiful creates journals, albums and scrapbooking pages that are amazing! Colors, beautiful papers and gorgeous designs  don’t let you leave from her cute Etsy shop.

image
* Tell me a little bit about yourself .

My name is Cindy Johnson, and I am from Utah. I am married to a fantastic guy, and mom to three beautiful girls. Outside of crafting, I love gardening, shopping, long rides with hubby, shoes, anything Victorian, the color yellow, and hanging out and laughing with my girls. My family is my world, and everyday with them is a blessing.

* Where does your shop name come from?

The name 'My kind of beautiful' came from trying to find my own style of scrapbooking. There are many styles and categories that we fall into, but we all also have our own unique kind of beautiful. So my shop is filled with my idea of beautiful.

il_430xN.58307317  il_fullxfull.90521232

* How long have you been crafting? How and why did you start?

I have been crafting since I was a kid and dabbled in a little of everything, I remember watching my mom do so many crafts from painting to decorating cakes, she is very talented. In 2006, a friend of mine invited me to a stamping party, I bought a few layout kits, and that was it, I was hooked! I had not tried paper crafting before, but I really enjoyed it. I've been at it non stop since then, and I love everything about it!

il_fullxfull.108334321 il_fullxfull.109967176

* What is your favorite material to work with and why?

My favorite material to work with has to be paper. Most scrappers agree that one can never have enough paper! :) I love the colors, textures, and beautiful patterns, and your entire creative design grows from the paper.
I also love lace, ribbon, and flowers, they are just beautiful together. It's hard for me to do a project without at least one of these items.

* Are you a big scrap booker yourself?

Oh absolutely, I am a huge scrap booker! I have done many albums full of pages. Here is one of my favorite pages, and a link to my online gallery.

* Where do you get your inspiration for the items in your shop?

My business card says "Where the beauty of nature meets feminine elegance." I love flowers and nature, as well as the romantic Victorian era, combine the two and there is my inspiration.

*If you had to choose just one favorite item in your shop, what would it be and why?

get_convo_image__.php

This mini album is actually in the sold items, but it is my favorite. It was the first altered item I had ever made. I have made many journals and albums since this one, but it is still my favorite. For me, this album represents what 'my kind of beautiful' is all about.

Cindy sent me this beautiful Journal/notebook set. I love it, it’s just gorgeous!il_fullxfull.109969741
